After her stint at Oxford, she began working as a researcher and in addition to this, a broadcast journalist for Yorkshire Television from the year 1982 to 1986. She could not stay there for long, so after a period of some time at Manchester on the BBC channel, she joined Channel 4 News in the year 1988. Zeinab co-presented the Channel 4 News from 1989 until the year 1998 when she joined the BBC for her career uprising stint.
She is the regular presenter of the BBC interview program called the HARD talk. As a part of an exclusive interview in May of 2009, Zeinab interviewed then Sudan's President Omar Al-Bashir, who was the first serving head of state of Sudan and he was charged with war crimes.
Since then, with her presenting on BBC World News, Badawi has also been presenting on BBC News Channel and the BBC News @ 5.

In November of 2009, she was named the International Television Personality of the Year in the Annual Awards in Media and also the international media of excellence awards organized by the Association of International Broadcasting.
